Golden Oldies - For a Bridge Player

My friend Arlene, who used to be a work-colleague and has since retired, has turned her talents to bridge playing.  She apparently plays a few days a week now and like all the other retired people I know wonders how she ever had time to work --- my day will come too, but right now, not soon enough - but enough about me!  I decided to do a bridge-themed card.  I found an image of a score sheet and printed it for my background paper; then I found a 4-hand bridge layout and printed that too; the cards are from a Bicycle Card Pack - which I routinely sacrifice to make cards with.  The image is SU - from the Golden Oldies set -- I just interchanged the old lady image with the sentiment on another stamp.  I sincerely hope this card makes Arlene laugh.  It makes me laugh!

Teacher Thank You

Sarah asked me this year to make a couple of teacher thank you cards for Emily's 2 teachers.  I had an idea of what I'd like the cards to look like and was very pleased to find this digital at the Stamping Boutique - it is perfect!  I paper-pieced the chalkboard on and wrote thank you with one of those white gel pens.  Sort of makes me think I need a printing course, but at least it's legible!  Hope the teachers like them!  Since these are thank you cards, I  made them in a 5" x 3.5" format - easy because I have the card stock and envelopes from SU!

Congratulations Emily

My beautiful granddaughter Emily graduates from Senior Kindergarten this June - and heads to the big time - Grade 1 in September.  When I saw this owl card in May 2012's issue of CardMaker Magazine, I loved it, and was able to find out that Whimsey Doodles did the image - a company I have long really liked.... So I was off.  Em's graduation cap and gown will be in a lovely blue, quite close to this one so I thought that would be fitting.  And, since I always put money on the front of kids cards, this time I disguised it under the cute little owl, punced out using SU's punch.  I added the googley eyes because I like them!  All in all, I'm quite pleased with how this turned out.

Baby Boy Congratulations

As you may know, I make greeting cards for my boss to send to staff who have celebrated/experienced some life event.  It shows that he does know what's going on in their lives, and has taken the time to actually recognize it!  Considering that his region is 85% of the land-mass of Ontario, he's got a big area to cover, so doesn't always get to see people face-to-face so this is a close second at least.  One of our staff in the Sault recently had a baby boy, and this is the card Peter is sending.  Cute I think!

Cathie's Grandchild - Baby Shower

It struck me as I was putting the title in the box above that obviously I'm working with a fairly old workforce (myself included) -- way more grandparents than parents --- time to retire I think!  Anyway, my colleague Cathie's daughter is expecting a baby boy in June (I think), and she asked me to make a card for her for the baby shower - something that they can keep as a reminder.  I used a couple of different stamp companies in this one to portray the image I wanted.  I'm very nervous when I make cards for people to whom I'm going to charge money!  Hope she likes it!!

Congratulations on your grandson

One of my co-workers was just blessed with a new grandson - his first grandchild.  As a grandmother myself I know how absolutely wonderful it is to have grrandchildren.  In this card I tried to demonstrate the busyness of having a baby around (one does tend to forget);  I used a cute Kraftin' Kimmie (baby in the tub) image as my starting point and went from there.  I ventured onto Etsy for the first time to gather the other images, with the exception of the sentiment.  I also used some Crystal Effects to make the water look watery.  I'm happy with how it turned out.

Debby's Birthday - my baby sister 2012

Needless to say I usually feel like barfing when I make a card for my sister Debby --- not because she's critical, because she isn't -- it's because she's so talented and accomplished at card making that I always feel like I can't even come close -- and again, not that anyone is expecting me to except me.  Debby is very talented, very funny, very caring and very dear to me.  She's always there for you - and especially when you need her.  I am extremely lucky to have her as a sister and as someone I can call my friend!

Please feel free to leave me a comment -- without sounding too needy, I love to read them!

Happy Easter

As usual for holidays I make my grandchildren, and associate grandchildren (Kiera and Sophia) cards and I always include cash!  Which I know is the biggest hit with the kids, but hope the parents appreciate the thought and work that goes into the cards.  This year I did all the cards using Close to My Heart's stamp of the month offering - can't remember which month, but they are great.  I also got to use that lovely Stampin'Up/Sizzix tulip embossing folder and of course clouds, which I quite like to use.  I made 3 versions so here they all are:
